With the approach of the summer season, London's cricket equipment industry is bursting into life. A factory at St John's Wood is busily transforming lumps of willow into bats. The picture shows an employee planing and shaping the willows before placing them in the splice.

Archie Street Salford Corrie
Alf Kirvin, aged 74, who lives in Archie Street, Salford in Lancashire. The street inspired the setting of television soap opera Coronation Street, and designers reproduced it in the tv studios. * Archie Street is due to be demolished under a re-development scheme, when more than 250-acres of the city's dockland area will make way for 4, 000 new homes.
